If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m not much of a political or “issues” blogger. I’m not much of a political or issues person, for that matter. But I couldn’t help but appreciate an opinion piece called “The Palin Effect: She makes me want to take a nap” that appeared in our Sunday paper today [...]

The kids’ first day of school is tomorrow. Wow, I can’t believe summer is almost over! While I dread the mounds of papers I’ll undoubtedly have to read and fill out over the next two weeks, I’m looking forward to a set routine and schedule — two things that will make this single mama’s life a whole lot easier. [...]

I’m taking Drama Girl to the oral surgeon in a few minutes to get an extra tooth removed. Yes, apparently an extra teeny-tiny tooth has formed in her mouth, out of sight; it came up when we had an x-ray taken after she fell and chipped the back of a tooth a few months ago. [...]

Single parents, you can check out my latest take (or should I say “take out”?!) in my column, Dinner for One, at The Imperfect Parent.
(Oh, and you can, too, Mom.)
Cheers!

Let’s make a deal and not round up.
Truthfully, I don’t know where our “lazy days of summer” [...]

My son asked me this yesterday:
“You know when people get really old, do you think eating lots of chocolate helps them stay alive?”
My response: “I sure hope so.”
Seriously, I think it may work. I’m going to up my intake starting today.

(Hint: That would be all of you parents.)
If you haven’t checked out The Imperfect Parent yet, now is the time. It’s one of my favorite parenting sites because it doesn’t shy away from today’s issues but never loses its sense of humor. As the site’s creators describe, "The Imperfect Parent is an online magazine for [...]

The Ex is celebrating a birthday this week, and, for a moment, I felt guilty about not taking the kids to buy him a card or gift. Then I remembered that he’s just not into birthdays or holidays — his own or anyone else’s. And except for Christmases and one Mother’s Day since our divorce, [...]

Friday night I did something many of my friends and coworkers thought unthinkable: I met people I DIDN’T KNOW for dinner — a group of moms who blog in or around our dear city. (Or is it a group of bloggers who happen to be moms?)
Get. Out. People you don’t know?!
Well, call me crazy — [...]

I decided to do a little Krispy Kreme run for breakfast this morning. Yes, I know. I know the donuts are globules of sugar and lard (but 0% trans fat!). Yes, I know they aren’t exactly the breakfast of champions. But we haven’t been there in months and the kids press their faces against the [...]
